OXITAN

OXITAN is an
anti-cancer medicine used in combination with other drugs to treat advanced
cancer or even serve as an additional anti-cancer treatment.
How it
works?
OXITAN works by
interfering with DNA structure and function and this mechanism kill cancer
cells and slows down tumor growth.

information about Medicine
Oxiplatin belongs to
a class of medications called platinum-containing antineoplastic drugs. This
medicine acts as a chemotherapeutic drug and as a vesicant that helps fight
growth and spread of cancer cells.
Dosage
information
OXITAN is
administered as a bolus injection or as an intravenous infusion. Doctor would
decide on the dosage looking at the core action for which the medicine is being
administered and overall condition of the patient.

What if
you miss a dose?
Being an injection
chance of missing the dosage is minimal, however, patients need to ensure that
they get the medicine as and when suggested by the doctor without fail.
What if
you overdose?
Overdose is not
possible, still if a patient feels any kind of discomfort doctor needs to be
consulted immediately.
Things
to be taken care of
OXITAN should not be
pregnant ladies as it might harm the fetus. Even breastfeeding ladies or the
ones who are trying to conceive should not take this medicine without
consulting the doctor as this medicine might not be a safe one. OXITAN should
not be taken by a patient whose blood count is extremely low or the one who is
taking 5-fluorouracil. This anti-cancer drug tends to make one more sensitive
to muscle spasms, tingling and even cold, thus complete medical attention needs
to be taken if a patient feels uncomfortable. Being highly emetogenic, OXITAN
might cause hair loss, neuropathy and temporary infertility.
Side
Effects
Like other
anti-cancer medicines, OXITAN too might cause some minor to moderate to major
side effects, these include:
• Hyperhidrosis
• Dysgeusia
• Rectal haemorrhage
• Arthralgia
• Pulmonary embolism
• Motor neuritis
• Peripheral sensory neuropathy
• Hypokalaemia
• Gastroesophageal reflux
• Raised liver enzyme
• Conjunctivitis
• Electrolyte imbalance
• Thrombosis
• Blood sugar abnormalities
• Hematuria
• Abnormal micturition frequency
• Alopecia
• Stomatitis
• Dyspnoea
• Skin exfoliation
• Dyspepsia
• Meningism
• Reduced blood cell counts including low red blood cells
