PHEXIN 250mg
PHEXIN is an antibiotic that is used to fight bacterial
infections in the body.
How it works?
PHEXIN works by interfering with the bacterial cell wall
formation, rupturing and killing the bacteria.
Important information about Medicine
Cephalexin belongs to a group of drugs called cephalosporin. It
is used to treat bacterial infections in ears, skin, urinary and respiratory
tract.
Dosage information
One needs to take the dose prescribed by the doctor along with
plain water. This is a dispersible tablet and thus needs to be swallowed in a
small amount of water, stirred and taken immediately. You can have some more
water over the tablet to ensure that it gets swallowed properly.
Strengths available
It is available in two strengths of 250mg and 500mg.
What if you miss a dose?
Do not miss on the dose as it brings down the efficacy of the
tablet and would more so lengthen the course. Try and follow a schedule as this
will help you take the medicine daily without a fail.
What if you overdose?
Never take multiple doses of the medicine even if you have
missed on the previous dose. In case, you overdose, call up your doctor or a
medical center nearby for immediate help.
Things to be taken care of
Before you start taking Phexin, inform your doctor about the
medicines that you are allergic to especially penicillin and other Cephalexin
medicines. If you have a kidney problem, liver disease, intestinal disorder,
diabetes or if you are anemic make sure that you do not take this medicine
without consulting your doctor. Tell your doctor if you plan to conceive or
pregnant before taking this medicine. Breast feeding ladies are advised not to
take this medicine as it would get into the breast milk and cause harm to the
baby.
Side Effects
Like other medicines, this antibiotic called Phexin too has some
side effects, these include:
§ Hives
§ Breathing problem
§ Swelling of lips or face
§ Convulsions
§ Severe blisters
§ Headache
§ Skin peeling and rashes
§ Fever
§ Throat pain
§ Bloody or watery Diarrhea
§ Less or more urination that normal
§ Pale yellow urine
§ Vaginal discharge
§ Vaginal itching
§ Tiredness
Get immediate help if you notice any of these symptoms or
allergic reactions.
Interaction with other drugs
Always tell your doctor about the medicines that you take before
starting any new medicine. If you are taking any supplements, herbal medicines
or even any other prescription drug ensure that you inform your doctor about
this.
Phexin might interact with metformin causing immediate increase
in the blood sugar levels and can cut down the efficacy of the oral
contraceptives. Never take this medicine with an antibiotic as this could cause
a reaction.
